How do I arrange to consign my items?

  • MSC accepts consignments by appointment or if you have 12 items or less, you can opt for our convenient Drop n' Run service! This provides an opportunity for those that are short on time and can't always make appointments. The main difference is that any items not meeting MSC criteria will be donated to charity.  As this is a very busy time of year for us at MSC, please call or message us to ensure we are taking Drop n Runs on the day you would like to come by.

 

How many items am I allowed to consign?

  • Maximum of 25 items at a time, blouses and anything that could get wrinkled must be on hangers please. We will return your hangers as we switch them with ours, this saves time and prevents clothing from getting wrinkled during processing.

 

How should I bring my items into the store?

  • Please be mindful that your clothes are either freshly laundered or dry-cleaned, prior to bringing in. Items that seem unclean or have any odour  (ie smoke, musty, ..) will not be accepted.  

 

What brands does My Sister's Closet accept/prefer?

  • Designer brands that sell well are: Michael Kors,Tori Burch, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, BCBG Maxazria, Lucky Brand, Joseph Ribkoff, Elie Tahari, Eileen Fisher, Sandwich, True Religion, Rock & Republic, 7 jeans, Paige, Steve Madden, Nine West, Fossil, Roots, Coach, J.Crew, Wilfred, T.babaton, Guess, Lululemon, Columbia, Merrell, MEC, Salvatore Farragamo, Jones NY, Anthropologie, etc.

 

What will you accept/not accept?

  • Do your best to make sure your items HAVE THE LABEL on them. We can not accept those that do not in order to price the apparel fairly, also for the sake of clients knowing what they are buying. 

  • Women's apparel should be no older than 2-3 years and in season - see the "what we are accepting tab" for specifics.

  • Must be in new or like new condition with no signs of wear 


What kind of clothing and accessories do you NOT accept?

  • Business/ formal suits and blazers do not normally sell quickly, so we are limited in what we can accept.

  • Also, we do not accept wedding and bridesmaid gowns, prom dresses, or furs. 

  • Items with NO LABEL on them. We can not accept those that do not in order to price the apparel fairly, also for the sake of clients knowing what they are buying.

 

How do I know when to pickup my items that haven't sold?

  • You will be provided with a pick up date for any unsold items - this is typically 8 to 12 weeks from time of drop off.  We will print off your itemized list for you to pull off the floor. We've found it to be much more efficient as who knows your items better than you!.  


  Where do you donate my unsold items if I don't collect them?

  • Any unclaimed items become the property of  MSC and are sorted for donation and /or used for promotional events / displays. clearance sales...MSC donates unaccepted and unclaimed items to the Salvation Army,  Better Beginnings - Better Futures and the Lanark County Interval House, as well as other local charities.  

  What are the terms of consignment?

  • Your consignment period is 8 to 12 weeks. You will receive 40% of the final selling price.  Items are marked down after 30 days by 20% and in the final month by 50%.  We pay out in cash for account balances under $99 and do E-transfers for payouts over $100.  We can on request do e-transfers under $100 for a fee of $1.50 to cover bank fee.


 Can you buy my clothes and give me money now?

  • Periodically we will buy specific items. Please inquire.
